Tinnitus, Stress and Tips to Avoid Both

Among what causes ringing in the ears or triggers tinnitus, stress is one which is especially malicious. This because it can make existing tinnitus worse and start off what is known as the tinnitus cycle.

When tinnitus is triggered by a person under stress, he or she tends to feel even more stressed because of the irritation, distraction and difficulties the constant ringing in the ears can create. When this happens, the tinnitus becomes even more intense.

While there are as yet no definitive tinnitus ringing in ears treatments, stress can be managed and handled. By managing our stress well we will also be able to manage our tinnitus and keep it from getting worse. Here are some tips on how to avoid stress.

A major source of stress is work. Stress at work occurs when we are pressured to perform well, when a deadline is fast approaching, and when we are overwhelmed with the number of tasks we have to do within a very short period of time. In order to avoid these situations from happening make sure that you manage your time well and plan ahead so that you have adequate time to prepare and accomplish the tasks assigned to you. When there is too much on your plate, learn to say no to additional tasks or see if you can delegate some of them to your colleagues.

Relaxation techniques such as breathing and stretching exercises are things you can do right at your work station or desk. When stressed with a complex task or one that has to be accomplished in a short period of time, sit erect, close your eyes and take ten deep breaths, inhaling slowly through the nose and exhaling through the mouth.

Exercise is a great way to handle stress. This not only allows one to release pent up energy, anger and frustration but also strengthens the body, boosts the immune system against infection and improves blood circulation. Exercise also releases a feel good chemical into the brain called endorphins which can give one a natural high.

Getting enough rest is essential if we want to avoid stress and in the process help you with the ear ringing dilemma that you have. We tend to become more vulnerable to stress and its harmful effects when we are blurry and unable to think straight because of lack of sleep.
